Who is Citroën?

Citroën is a French automobile manufacturer. The automobile company began in 1919 by Andre Citroën. Beside the Unites States Citroën created one of the world's first successful mass-production car companies. Since 1976, it has been part of PSA Peugeot Citroën and its headquarters is located at rue Fructidor, in Saint-Ouen, Seine-Denis, near Paris.

The History

Citroën has played a big part in creation on innovative automobile manufacturing. Citroën is renowned for its use of advanced technology. In the 1950's Citroën shocked the world when they created high-pressure hydraulics.
Their high-pressure hydraulics system takes advantage of the fact that you can compress a gas but cannot compress a fluid. The gas acts as the springing medium while the hydraulic fluid does all the sharp and sly things such as providing damping and leveling. Different then the hydrolastic system built-in to certain BMC and BLMC cars, the Citroën system relies on an engine-driven pump to pressurise the hydraulic system and it is this power source which enables self-leveling, variable ride height, assisted jacking. It also enables care drivers to experience fully powered braking systems and power steering in their cars too.

In the mid 1930's Citroën developed self-leveling suspension, which offered the driver ride comfort. It was the first reliable application of front wheel drive. The hydropneumatic system is still in use on the current C5 and C6 because over 50 years on, nothing has been invented to come close or even compare to its excellence.

In invention of Citroën gearboxes led to the two chevrons being their brand logo. Citroën also created power-assisted brakes. Where would we be without them?

Citroën was been around for decades creating strong, stylish, reliable cars that people fill safe and comfortable to drive. Recently in 2009, Citroën celebrated its 90th Anniversary in the automobile industry.
