Ford Automotive Company Is An Institution In The States

The Ford Motor Company has been selling mass produced vehicles for more than 100 years. It was known as one of the Big Three American auto manufacturers. They have attracted many loyal customers over the years and have had a wide range of dynamic and innovative products.

The company was started in 1903 by Henry Ford who wanted to build a car for the masses. The Model A was the first car produced by the Ford Company. Gradually the company rolled out a lineup of reasonably priced vehicles which were named using the letters of the alphabet.

The Model T was the best known out of this series and is a classic car that still has a big following. The Model T was produced from 1908 to 1927. During the 20 years it was produced it was bought by 16.5 million Americans. It was even affordable enough for the factory workers to purchase it.

The early years also brought the introduction of the moving assembly line. Ford was the first to utilize this cost effective production method. This innovation has become the mainstay of the automobile manufacturing process. In 1925 the Ford Company entered into the luxury car market when they purchased the Lincoln Motor Company. They also created the Mercury division to produce mid-priced cars.

In America during the 1930’s Ford unveiled the stylish Lincoln Zephyr and also introduced a low priced V8 engine. By this time it had built over 25 million vehicles. The postwar era saw the introduction of the legendary Thunderbird. This car was a huge hit and is still coveted by collectors. It had a high performance with luxury features including power windows.

By the 1960’s Ford introduced the Falcon, which became very popular in the States. The mid 60’s brought the car that still is as popular today as when it was first introduced, the Ford Mustang. The mustang was one of the biggest sellers of the day and still is. There even was a new vehicle category called the pony car that was established when the first Mustang was introduced. The public loved the sleek sporty look, affordable price and powerful V8 engines.
The 70’s brought changing consumer tastes and new government regulations with the price of fuel rising. In 1979 Ford acquired a stake in Mazda. In the mid to late 80’s Ford was showing new growth and strength. It had the popular Taurus and Escort. They also expanded its auto empire by acquiring the Jaguar and Aston Martin brands.

The midsize SUV, the Ford Explorer, was a hit in the 90’s. This vehicle played a huge role in the era of the SUV in America. The Ford family grew in 1999 with the purchase of the Volvo’s car division and in 2000 they acquired Land Rover.

At this time there was even talk about Ford taking over the number one spot from General Motors and becoming the #1 automaker in the world. However, no one was prepared for what the new millennium had in store for the auto industry. Ford along with the rest of the big three saw increased competition and legacy costs with the new millennium. Their decision to rely on the SUV’s for profit instead of producing smaller more fuel efficient cars was an important reason for their downfall.

After facing bankruptcy and downsizing of the company, Ford is emerging once again. The Ford Fusion has helped to bring the company into the forefront once again. The Ford Fusion was named 2010 Motor Trend Magazine’s Car of the Year. It beat out twenty three other contenders which included the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and BMW 7 series.

One of the main reasons the Fusion was chosen was because it has a vast assortment of choices that makes it appealing to all types of drivers. The combination of fuel efficiency, comfort and technology made it the winner of this prestigious award.

One of Ford’s flagship products in the United States Of America, the Ford Taurus is still going strong and the 2010 range is loaded with cutting edge technology. It will have Adaptive Cruise Control, SecuriCode Keyless Entry Keypad, Voice Activated Navigation, and Easy Fuel Capless Fuel Filler.

The Fiesta is a quick and nimble car that is fuel efficient and also fun to drive. It has a 1.6L Ti-VCT Duratec 14 engine and is available in PowerShift Six Speed Automatic Transmission. It has Ford Tuned suspension and an aerodynamic design to give you a comfortable and smooth driving experience.

The Focus has dynamic styling and an upscale interior. There are a variety of vehicles in this range to choose from. It gets excellent petrol mileage and has environmentally friendly seats. The seat cushions are made from bio based foam that comes from plant seeds. This vehicle is eco friendly and affordable.

The 2010 Ford Mustang is a vision of raw power and has chiseled good looks. The Mustang has new rims, a power dome hood, and distinctive grille for a strong sleek look. You can achieve more spirited driving with the AdvanceTrac Electronic Stability Control System. The new cold air induction system increases the horsepower and torque.

The Ford Company is trying to claw its way back into the domestic market with better products and innovative technology. Even though the future is uncertain, with Ford’s commitment to becoming a wiser carmaker, the company will likely see brighter days.
