Who is Hyundai?
The Hyundai Motor Company is a South Korean manufacturer of automobiles. In
2003, it was South Korea's largest carmaker and the world's seventh largest
car manufacturer. The Hyundai Motor Company operates the world's largest integrated
automobile manufacturing facility in Ulsan on South Korea's southeast coast.
The History
Chung Ju-yung founded the Hyundai Motor Company in 1947 as Hyundai Engineering
and Construction Co. Hyundai Motor Co. was launched in 1967. The company's first
model named the Cotina was released into the car market, in cooperation with
Ford Motor Company, in 1968. In 1975, the Pony, Korea's first proprietary model,
was released, based on Japanese Mitsubishi technology. The Pony was exported
for the first time in 1976. In 1986, Hyundai began to sell their cars in the
United States. American consumers knew the car as the Excel and it was known
as the Pony in Korea. It was nominated 'best product 10' by Fortune magazine,
largely because of its low price. The company began to produce models manufactured
with its own technology in 1988, beginning with the mid-size Sonata.

Hyundai continues to collect awards for its quality cars. Three Hyundai cars,
the Genesis, Elantra, and Accent are known worldwide for their reputation, as

- HED-1 (2005) - Created at Hyundai's German Design and Technical
Centre, the HED-1 represented an elegant improvement on Europe's B-segment MPVs.
- HCD-8 (2005) - Autocar magazine rated the Hyundai HCD-8 more
highly than a Ferrari.
- Euro-1 (1998) - This open top, two-seater roadster is a classy
sports car with six-speed transmission.
- HCD-1 (1992) - This visionary Hyundai roadster offered high performance
combined with muscular styling.
Hyundai has rediscovered itself with its latest cars they have put on the market.
