GAP Insurance Protects Volkswagen New Car Buyers Against Car Depreciation

Volkswagen Automotive - Volkswagen is possibly the best known car manufacturer from Germany. In 1934, Ferdinand Porsche was commissioned by Adolph Hitler to build an inexpensive, small car. He designed the beetle shaped sedan and wanted to call it a Volkswagen, which means people’s car in German.

World War II delayed production of the vehicle. The factory which was about to start production of the new “People Car” had suffered extensive damage during the war and was taken over by the British Army. The company was renamed Volkswagen, the town was renamed Wolfsburg. Both these names had been changed by Hitler during the war. Mass production of the Volkswagen Beetle had begun in the late 40’s. It was introduced in the United States in 1949.

Volkswagen broadened its range in the 1950’s when they added the Volkswagen Bus to the lineup. It was quite popular because of its versatility. The Beetle went on to be the best selling car of all time, and is still in production and popular today.

By 1955 the Wolfsburg factory had produced over 1 million Volkswagen Beetles. The Beetle was used in popular Disney movies. By the end of the 60’s Volkswagen was producing over 1 million Beetles a year. In 1972 the Beetle topped the world production record set by Ford’s Model T.

The mid 70’s brought a new breed of Volkswagens which had water cooled, front mounted engines. The Passat was the first in the new range. It was built using standardized parts that could be interchanged among other models in the range. The Golf was the next to join the new range. By the end of the 70’s the Scirocco sport coupe and the Golf GTI joined the lineup. During this time the Beetle was discontinued in the US market.

In the 80’s Golf became Volkswagen’s most popular vehicle. The second generation of the Golf was built using an automated method using robots. This was the first time robots were used to produce automobiles. The high performance Golf GTI made waves on the rally circuit. Volkswagen Motorsport took the title of Group A World Rally Champions in 1986.

Volkswagen’s sales declined in the United States in the early 90’s. The company refocused marketing efforts and was producing new products to make a turnaround in the company’s sagging sales. The New Beetle helped bring the company back in the United States. The New Beetle didn’t fare as well in the Europe markets. The body was based on the classic Beetle and still had a place in consumer’s heart for the cool looking “love bug”.

Volkswagen in the new millennium tried to move into the luxury car class with the very pricey Phaeton sedan and Touareg SUV. Both these vehicles were well designed, however they were not big sellers.

There are several different types of cars in Volkswagens range today. The Fox is a compact car that can easily zip around the city and seats four comfortably. This is a vehicle that is big on style and being fuel efficient without having a hefty price tag. The New Polo has a timeless style and has a luxurious interior that makes it stand out from the crowd. It is very fuel efficient and built to last.

The Volkswagen Golf is still going strong and there a different models to choose from, including the Golf GTI, Golf Plus, and the New Golf Estate. The entire range is built solid and performs well. As a brand Volkswagen are known for their reliability, dependability and robust engineering build. The whole range offers plenty of amenities and all of the vehicles are fuel efficient. The Beetle is still around and there is also the New Beetle Cabriolet which is a sporty fun convertible.

The Jetta is packed with features to assure complete driving comfort and has a streamlined exterior. This is a fuel efficient vehicle designed to make driving enjoyable and fun. The Passat is a very reliable vehicle and designed to make any road trip enjoyable. The Passat range includes the Passat Saloon, Passat Estate and the Passat CC.

The Volkswagen Scirocco is the return of an icon with new styling and advanced technology. This coupe is built for performance and has a dynamic design. The Tiguan is a stylish compact Sports Utility Vehicle that handles well, but has poor fuel efficiency sadly. It has a wide range of innovative technology to make your driving experience safer and more enjoyable.

Volkswagen has always strived to make vehicles that are efficient. There Bluemotion Technologies makes their vehicles extremely fuel efficient with lower CO2 emissions. The only drawback with the Bluemotion is that to extract the very best fuel efficiency from this model you really do need to travel long distances. If you are a driver who covers only a few miles per day then do not expect great things over other models. The Bluemotion uses light, small and powerful TSI engines. They developed the DSG Dual Clutch Gearbox for better fuel economy. They have designed fuel saving features such as the automatic start/stop and improved the aerodynamics of their cars.

Today Volkswagen has been successful in its lineup that includes everything from sedans to SUVs. Volkswagen has always had the reputation for producing fine crafted vehicles that handle well and are comfortable and fun to drive.
